After moving to our new farm and getting everything where it is supposed to be and everyone has their routine down we decided we were at a point where investing in a herdsire made financial sense. We had several females that were open (ready to be bred) and were faced with paying another farm stud fees from $750 to $10,000 per breeding we decided to purchase Snowmass XXXNight Sky to have as Southern Estate's Elite Herdsire and begin adding the Snowmass genetics to our herd. He is a Snowmass XXXtreme son who won Herdsire of the year for 2006 and 2007 the only alpaca ever to achieve that feat and sold for $250,000! Not only providing us with 30 years worth of incredible breeding by Snowmass XXXNight Sky will add color with his sire being medium brown and his dam a true black! We are thrilled to add this incredible male to our farm! Southern Estate Alpacas achieves first year goal of 30+ alpacas! We have been fortunate and blessed to have acquired a herd of 34 top of the line alpacas that have pedigrees that boast some of the top names in the industry. We have east and west coast genetics as we have hand selected alpacas from our research and with the friends we have made in our goal of having a world class operation. Some of the names you will find in the ancestors of our alpacas are: Quechua, Caligula, Pulitzer, Hemingway, Matrix, XXXtreme, Blockbuster, Plantel, Mateo, Dracula, Royal Fawn, Royal Avenger, McGwire, Amedeus, Sky King, Matador, Invincible, and Legacy just to name a few. Once we turned our lives upside down to pursue our dream of having an alpaca farm we decided early on that Southern Estate Alpacas would need these types of genetics in order to be a contender among the big farms that have been doing it for decades. Southern Estate Alpacas participates in a Live Nativity Scene at a local church in Cartersville, Ga. Our son Tripp took two of our alpacas Avalanche and "Sassy" Cassie and participated in a live Nativity Scene at a local church in After Double O’ Good Alpacas purchased Snowmass Matrix for a record setting auction price of $675,000 our mission was to purchase one of his boys as a Jr. Herdsire and fill XXXNight Sky’s shoes in a couple of years. Once the bidding topped $600,000 we put our hands down knowing we could at least get one of his boys and spend the extra money we saved on females which would help catapult us to the top! J After researching the market for all of the male Matrix offspring we struck a deal on Matrix in the Mist who according to Julie Skinner "The cria is looking awesome...he is young but we know what these Matrix fleeces do second growth. He is showing exactly what Matrix has as a cria maybe even better"!!!

Southern Estate Alpacas participates in Tractor Supply "Tractor Days" in Cartersville, Georgia to share information about alpacas and our farm. Avalanche and "Sassy" Cassie did so well at the Live Nativity Scene they were chosen to represent Southern Estate Alpacas for this event as well. It seemed like all the folks that came to see the tractors quickly became more interested in learning about alpacas!

This little fellow has all the attributes to become an Elite Herdsire. Liz and I get more excited everyday when we go up to the barn to feed and get our hands on Pride. He is truly a special guy and his fleece is to die for! We can certainly see that Julie Skinner at Snowmass Alpacas knows her stuff when it comes to "making' great alpacas!

I just wanted to let you know how incredibly pleased Liz and I are with our newest cria! Snowmass Vicuna Mist delivered us a beautiful male cria the first of July and he has exceeded all of our expectations! Snowmass Pure Passion has made a boy that has a coat of fleece like I have never seen before! I have been a ring steward for 3 different shows and have gotten my hands on some really awesome alpacas but they all fall short of what this little guy has! I look forward to going out to feed every morning just so I can sink my hands in his coat! I try my best to send you letters without using exclamation points but it is impossible!

Liz is elected to the Board of Directors
Southeastern Alpaca Association has just elected Liz to the Board of Directors where she will serve a three year term. We are so excited to be a part of a rapidly growing organization that Liz can help steer the direction of and increase the exposure to the alpaca industry. We view this as an incredible opportunity to help alpacas become a household name and help get the fiber aspect of alpacas off and running.
Just in time for National Alpaca Farm Days...
Angora delivered a beautiful black baby girl two days before National Alpaca Farm Days and Southern Estate's Savannah was a hit with everyone that came out to visit us and meet the alpacas.
